[2025 Tuesday Concert] Nong (Ū) (Daegeum - Kim Jeongseung & SNU Daegeum Ensemble S???)

May 20, 2025

Exploring the Depth of Korean Traditional Music – A Special Stage for the Daegeum Today!

The May Tuesday Concert presents an extraordinary lineup featuring Professor Jeongseung Kim (Daegeum musician and faculty at ºìÌÒÊÓƵ’s Department of Korean Traditional Music) alongside the SNU Daegeum Ensemble S???. This performance showcases a diverse repertoire that bridges traditional and contemporary sounds.

The program includes "Cheongseonggok" – A masterpiece of refined daegeum court music, "Pyeongnong" – A delicate reinterpretation of a female gagok melody, accompanied by piano, "Heoncheonsu" – A fusion of meditative tungso flute tones and deep cello resonance, "Seoyongseok-ryu Daegeum Sanjo" – A performance of one of the most iconic daegeum sanjo styles, "GHOST SONGS" – A contemporary creation interweaving daegeum, cello, and percussion in a ritualistic rhythm and modern expression, featuring a unique performance where musicians play and strike their instruments as part of the composition.

This special event revisits key works from the debut concert of SNU Daegeum Ensemble S???, founded in March 2025, offering a rare opportunity to experience the dynamic range and artistic expansion of the daegeum in one setting.
