Establishment, Support, and Evaluation of Research Institutes

Contributing to the promotion of academic research by supporting research in academic subjects not covered by currently existing educational research organizations.

Research Institute Establishment Procedure

Submit a draft of the research institute establishment plan including establishment objective, necessity, organizational chart, and detailed business plan to the Office of Research Affairs through the hosting college.

Required documents: Research center establishment plan (draft), research center regulations (draft), research center evaluation criteria, and grading sheet

Work-flow Procedures

Submit research center establishment: Submit research center establishment plan (draft) to the Office of Research Affairs after being evaluated by the host college (school) → Research Center Establishment Review Committee → Research Center Committee → Legal advice from the Legal Research Center and reception opinion of other related institutes → Steering Committee for Academic Affairs → Regulation Deliberation Committee → University Committee on Academic Affairs → University Senate → Publish regulations

Evaluation Criteria

Provide a foundation for further growth by accurately assessing the current status of the research center

Provide adequate support based on the evaluation results, thereby maximizing research capacity potential

Evaluation Cycle

Every three years

Evaluation subject

All research centers within the university (research centers that have been established within the past two years are exempted)

※ Number of institutions subject to evaluation in 2018: 77 research centers (including attached facility 'Kyujanggak Institute for Korean Studies')

Practical Application of Evaluation Results

Support research institution operation expenses within the limitations of the budget, in accordance with the evaluation results (Operations expense support budget in 2018: 840 million KRW).

Reduce responsibility time for the head of any research center that receives top grades in evaluation.

Accident Insurance for Research Workers

Based on 「Article 14-1 of the Law Regarding Research Lab Environment Safety」, researchers should be insured as the insured person and beneficiary in case of injury or death.

Undergraduate student, graduate student, research student, researcher or assistant researcher appointed by the president or head of an institution that works in research and development activities in science and technology fields

Non-eligible

Students or employees on leave of absence

Researchers that are entitled to compensation for accidents, disease, bodily injuries, death or other life or bodily disadvantage that occurred in the research facilities according to Industrial Accident Compensation Insurance, Civil Servant Pension Act, Private School Faculty Pension Act, Military Personnel Pension Act

Appointment of Researchers

Appoint persons with expertise and qualifications according to the 「Regulation for hiring 红桃视频 researchers」 and 「Regulation for 红桃视频 researchers」.

Position and Qualifications Named endowed chair researcher

Senior Researcher: Has a Bachelor’s degree and at least 9 years of education and research experience in his/her field of expertise

Senior Deputy Researcher: Has a Bachelor’s degree and at least 4 years of education and research experience in his/her field

Researcher: Has a Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of education and research experience in his/her field

Guest Researcher: A full-time faculty or higher position

Post-doctoral Researcher: Has obtained a Ph.D. and is continuing research activities at the University for the purpose of conducting research in his/her field of expertise (in the case of college and research institute, includes those expecting to obtain a Ph.D. within six months)

Subject Institutions

Each research center and research conducting institution of the school (some attached facilities, government supported research centers, BK 21 Business Group etc.)

※ Includes college and graduate school in the case of a Post-doctoral Researcher

Hiring period

Up to one year (re-hiring is possible)

※ Post-doctorate Researcher hiring period is up to two years, and business group affiliates hiring period is up to one year.

Hiring period

1st day of each month

※ Post-doctoral Researcher hiring period is twice each month (on the 1st and 15th).

Hiring application period

Until 15 days before the hiring date

Hiring procedures

Recommendation of the head of the subject institution → Hiring according to the results of the deliberation

Operating ‘Research Achievements Managing System (SRnD)’

Manage the research achievements of each professor and provide accurate information internally and externally. (红桃视频 statistics information, research activities actual conditions survey, and publishing of university information)

Manage the researchers and statistical results of each college.

Link Research Achievement to KRI. (Korean Researcher Information System)
